CREATING COMMUNITY: LEARNING FROM 30 YEARS OF THE COHOUSING MOVEMENT - Esalen Workshop with Katie McCamant & Chuck Durrett, September 24-26, 2010
If you’ve never had an opportunity to experience the beauty of Esalen Retreat Center in Big Sur, California, take this opportunity to combine learning about cohousing and experiencing these amazing 120 acres carved out between mountain and ocean, and blessed by a cascading canyon stream and hot mineral springs gushing out of a seaside cliff.
Learn from Katie McCamant and Chuck Durrett, the couple that brought the concept of cohousing to North America. You will hear how people have organized to create over 100 such neighborhoods all across the country--in urban, suburban and rural locations, and for both intergenerational and senior (active adult) groups. By combining the privacy of individual homes with extensive community facilities, cohousing communities create socially and environmentally sustainable neighborhoods.
